River Muoniojoki ensures to those crazy about fishing and also to those who just enjoy being on the water an all-year program of events with nature experiences.
River Muoniojoki is the main channel of the Tornio-Muoniojoki route, one of the best spots for wild salmon, sea trout, grayling and whitefish.
In the lakes in Muonio you will find suitable fishing species the year round. The main species in the lake are pike, whitefish, vendace, perch, burbot and ruff. Also brown trout swim about in some of the lakes. During the last years different types of ice fishing have become popular, among others, ice fishing of perch, vendace, whitefish and burbot, and participating in the examining of the winter nets (see Keimiön Koukkaus).
The fishing licences are cheap, the ice fishing is as a rule free of charge in all the public lakes of our area, the provincial lure fishing permit enables its holder to fish in summer in all the tributaries and in nearly a hundred lakes in the municipality area. In River Muoniojoki a special lure fishing license is required, and for lure fishing in Lake Pallasjärvi, a lure fishing license to be obtained from the local fishery association of Raattama.
